Noted Nicaraguan cigar maker Abdel Josef “A.J.” Fernandez, owner of the Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua factory in Estelí, has made quite a reputation for his tobacco-growing skills. His newest project, the H.Upmann by A.J. Fernandez, has put a decidedly spicier spin on this brand, which hovers just to the heftier side of medium. The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper yields a unique sweetness, while the Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers provide an essence of charred wood and leather, along with a hint of cedar. A Churchill, toro, and robusto are produced.
